Broadcaster/Writer/Cartoonist
Whilst still in the Royal Air Force Frankie began volunteering at Hillingdon Hospital Radio Station reminding him of his ambitions as a youngster to be on Radio Tees, his local radio station. The Friday nights collecting requests from the patients and the next 2 hours alongside another presenter gave Frankie his first real taste of 'air time'. This was cut short by posting but he eventually ended up in Gibraltar volunteering for the British Forces Broadcasting Service. He went solo with BFBS in May 2003 and has subsequently finished his military career to follow a creative path which included his own show every Saturday on BFBS radio and TV narration and presenting work with the Gibraltar Broadcasting Corporation (GBC). Frankie writes articles for magazines, mainly the Gibraltar Magazine where he has interviewed many of the leading figures in Gibraltar politics and society including the current Chief Minister Peter Caruana. Frankie is a very keen cartoonist with a comic eye. He has already drawn cartoons for newspapers and magazines as well as privately as gifts. He has also designed tee-shirts and dabbles in watercolour painting. Frankie is available for private work from presenting shows, acting as MC or after dinner speaking drawing from both his experiences and comic talents as well as years of military service which are sometimes stranger than fiction. One of his great joys is performing in the Trafalgar Theatre Groups annual pantomime at Ince's Theatre every January here is a clip.

John
Montagu – 4th Earl of Sandwich began a Grand Tour of Europe in 1734
which took in Gibraltar. The story of the Earl
of Sandwich is well known but there is another twist to the story. The Earl went about his busy business in Gibraltar
and carried on his practise of eating as he worked. He would order his
favourite meat sandwich every day and the tavern owner would see him coming
shouting ahead to the cook to prepare Mr Montagu’s snack or tapas. “Montagu’s!
Montagu’s” they would cry meaning "Montagu is coming prepare his lunch!" This in
the local tongue became “Montaguito’s! Montaguito’s!" due to the small size of
the sandwiches. Other folk took a liking to this new type of snack brought in
from England.
As its popularity spread from Gibraltar and
the practise of repeating words without seeing them written down changed the
spelling, Montaguito’s became Montaditos the Spanish word for a small
sandwich eaten to this day all over the world. So enjoy Montagu Tapas Bar and
do try the local montaditos - you are tasting history.
